B-U-G

I can't believe he actually did this!

Apparently Bekah and Nathan don't realize that, for all intents and purposes, a caterpillar is technically a b-u-g. If they knew that, the last thing they would be doing would be to let it crawl all over themselves -- they would be running the other direction in a state of panic that would take a few mild sedatives to calm down. Let's not tell them, k? :)

Emilie's Soccer Game

Goalie
See how small she is next to that girl? And she's really pretty tall for her age!

Emilie's been playing outdoor soccer for the last few weeks. She played indoor in the late winter with the Pre-K/K group, but I bumped her up to the 1st and 2nd grade group for outdoor since Bekah didn't want to play (she chose swimming instead) and Emilie knew a couple girls on the older team from Awana. She's not as agressive as she was with the younger group (probably because she was the biggest then, but is among the smallest now), but seems to be having fun!

The proof (see next post)

Who's up for a good laugh?

This one's mostly for my sisters, but I'm sure others will enjoy it as well.

So, girls...You'll never guess what Mom brought over this morning. Besides some car ramps and cake, she handed me a card with Julie's handwriting on the outside that read, "Brad, Laura and Emilie". Much to my shock (I don't know why), it was a card that should've been delivered after Emilie was born (over 6 years ago)...but apparently wasn't. The end of the card read, "We hope you really enjoy the gifts." I looked at Mom and asked her if there were gifts with it? :) I probably got those, Julie...but I guess I can't really remember.

The laughter doesn't end there. Mom then proceeded to hand me a birthday card from Grandma and Grandpa Krebs -- obviously from at least the late 80's -- with a $20 bill inside!!! I told Mom I felt like I should put half of it in savings (or whatever percentage it was we used to have to put in savings) and then buy a Barbie with the rest!

Bekah Bike Riding

Yesterday I rode to work on the bike/tandem bike/trailer get-up that we've put together for the three younger ones while Emilie rode her own bike. Today, we did it again (more out of necessity than desire this time as the van is having some "issues"). Anyways, on the way home, Bekah says to me, "Mommy, later tonight can we take a bike ride to nowhere?" What she meant was that she just wanted to take a bike ride for fun, but the way she worded it made me smile!

Drywall up

This will be the school side of the room.
Hallway back to the bathroom, work (junk?) room door to the left, laundry door to the right (in the hallway).

Door to where the bedroom will be eventually (the work room door is the frame you see in the far right). This side of the room will be a play area with built in cubbies for various toys to the left of the bedroom door.

School room side, with a view of the closet.

Dad had the drywall up by the end of last week and something like 12 recessed lights put in, along with all the electrical work. It's looking good!

The Basement

Paneling...ick.

Where Dad removed the two posts that would've made the room feel A LOT less open if they had stayed. He said he thinks he's pretty sure the house won't cave in without them. :)

Some of the studs up -- the hallway back to the bathroom and the paneling that was on the staircase removed to make it open on that side.

Another Trekkie?

In recognition of the recent release of the Star Trek movie, Sam and I were re-visiting Aunt Sandy's blog on Luke when he resembled a Kling-On. Sam apparently thought it was a good look and attempted to duplicate it using the corner of the fireplace. But unfortunately, his aim was off and he hit right under his right eye, instead of between the eyes. Oh well...there's always next time.

Sorry, Mom...I had to do it!

The following took place while reading Emilie's school book to her this evening on Harriet Tubman:

"Emilie, do you know anyone named Harriet?"

"No."

"Great-Grandma Schut's name is Harriet."

"Oh. I didn't know that!" A very short time later while still reading the book, she continues: "How old is Grandma?"

"92."

"No, I meant Great-Grandma."

Dad and I got a pretty good laugh at that one over the phone!

Can I just say that, as much work as it can be, I really, really enjoy homeschooling!!! I'll cherish these moments forever and probably won't even remember the fact that the house wasn't near as clean as I would've liked it to be!
